You can still get a nationwide PPO in Wyoming, and in Jackson that's worth knowing, because the marketplace has a single company and nothing but its PPOs. Here's how Teton County builders choose.
Hi, I'm Sam Jaber. I'm a health insurance broker in Tampa, licensed in Wyoming, and I work by phone, which is the only practical way to reach a builder in the valley between June and October.
Picture a general contractor in Jackson. His company builds and remodels high-end homes in the valley, out toward Wilson, up in the subdivisions on the west bank, and down toward Hoback. The season is short and intense; snow slows outside work, and winter becomes interiors, bids and design meetings. Housing is so expensive that half his subs drive over Teton Pass from Victor and Driggs or up the canyon from Alpine. He and his wife have three kids. They use a family doctor in Jackson, and when they need a specialist, the drive is to Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City.
Here's the first thing for this family: you can still get a nationwide PPO in Wyoming, and I can set one up for a Teton County household.
That choice matters more here than almost anywhere in the state. Teton County's 2026 marketplace has 11 medical plans, all PPOs, and all from a single insurance company. Lincoln and Uinta counties are the same. Wyoming's other 20 counties get 23 plans from 2 companies. So in Jackson the marketplace question isn't PPO versus something else. It's whether that one company's PPO network includes the specialists you drive to in Idaho and Utah, and whether a privately sold nationwide PPO, priced after a health review, does better for you.
It's household income for the coverage year. For a builder, that's what the company nets after subs, materials, equipment and vehicle notes, insurance, permits and overhead. A valley contractor can have a very large gross and a much smaller net, and the credit follows the net. Estimate it with your accountant and change it on HealthCare.gov when a project slips into next year.
Open enrollment for 2027 coverage runs November 1 to January 15, and December 15 is the deadline for a January 1 start. In Jackson, that's the quiet weeks after the last framing goes up, which makes it a good time to talk.
After a slow season, or a year of heavy equipment purchases, the household can land inside the credit range. Then the marketplace is usually the lowest-priced route, since the credit only applies there. In Teton County you'll be choosing among that one company's PPOs, so the work is the network: your family doctor in Jackson, the pediatrician, and the specialists in Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City you'd actually use. A PPO still pays something for an out-of-network visit, at a higher cost to you.
Next step: Send me last year's return and your doctors' names on both sides of the pass, and I'll price Teton County's PPOs with your credit applied.
This is the common one for a valley contractor. When the household earns past the credit range, all 11 Teton County plans are full price. With a healthy family, a medically underwritten nationwide PPO deserves a quote. Each of you answers health questions, and the insurer approves you, approves with one earlier condition excluded, or declines. A healthy household often pays less this way than the marketplace's full rate, and the network isn't built around one state, which suits a family whose care is in Wyoming, Idaho and Utah.
Next step: Give me the family's birth years and your doctors, and I'll put a nationwide PPO quote next to Teton County's full-price PPOs.
A child with diabetes, a heart condition or another ongoing need means the family stays on HealthCare.gov, whatever the business makes. A marketplace plan can't refuse anyone or charge more for health. The one thing to confirm is that the child's specialist, often outside Wyoming, is in that company's network. Your builder's risk, liability and workers' comp are for the job, not for a family member's illness.
Next step: Tell me the specialist and the hospital, and I'll check them against Teton County's PPO networks.
Straight answers, no sales pitch.
One. Teton County's 11 marketplace medical plans for 2026 are all PPOs from a single insurance company.
No. Every 2026 marketplace medical plan in Teton County is a PPO.
Yes. Nationwide PPOs are sold off the marketplace after a medical review, and I quote them over the phone.
November 1 through January 15. Choose by December 15 if the new plan should begin January 1.
Tell me your county, everyone on the plan, the doctors you use in Jackson, Idaho Falls or Salt Lake City, and what the company netted. I'll price Teton County's PPOs and a nationwide PPO side by side.
